Video Contest & Insurance Safety Tip 11-5

The video contest:

The Safety Tip:
Understanding the basic homeowners Insurance overages

1.Building Structure Coverage:
TYPICALLY A homeowner’s policy will also cover damage caused by fire, wind or hail.
Most policies do not cover losses from certain natural disasters, such as floods,
earthquakes, or other earth movement.

2.PersonalProperty/ContentsCoverage:
Covers personal property that is damaged or destroyed as a result
of the above covered loss. Settlement terms for personal property can be
on a Replacement Cost or Actual Cash Value basis, cost minus depreciation depending on the policy you select.

3.LiabilityCoverage: Pays for bodily injury or property damage
to others, if you are liable, resulting from use of your home, unintentional acts committed by you, or your pets. Costs to defend lawsuits are included in liability.

4.Loss of Use: this Reimburses for additional living expenses you incur
If your home is unfit to live in due to a covered loss.

PLEASE NOTE: All homeowner’s policies do not necessarily insure the same types of damage of causes of loss or damage. Be sure to determine what is and isn't covered.

We have a rare opportunity to see an extraordinary guitarist right here in Tucson this Saturday at St Marks Presbyterian Church 3809 E 3rd at 7:30PM Saturday April 9th.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5QWN0_bUuA

Pete Fine, well-known guitarist and composer of orchestral and chamber works for the past 40 years (and lead guitarist for Whole Lotta Zep), will be giving a recital of his 12-string guitar works, including a Duet for 12-string guitar & Violin and the very challenging Eight Preludes for 12-string Guitar.

The event will be at St Marks Presbyterian Church 3809 E 3rd at 7:30PM Saturday April 9th.

Admission is $8 in advance (Rainbow Guitars, Antigone books, and PayPal by contacting Pete at the email below) and $10 at the door.

His 12-string CD, Purple Winters and Past Lives, will also be available at the concert.

I’ve known Pete for many years. In fact he played at my wedding reception. Back in the day he also had a natural food restaurant on 4th Ave. He currently works at Rainbow guitar, http://www.rainbowguitars.com/MeetBioOne.aspx?sid=23
His compositions are complex, enlightening, and amazing. Besides being lead guitar for Whole Lotta Zep, he has performed whole concerts of Jimi Hendrix material, one concert great concert to benefit KXCI Community Radio. http://kxci.org
He also is a self-taught sitar player in the traditional Punjabi style (Punjab is a northern province in India).

This recital should not be missed. This will be a unique event of virtuoso 12-string guitar.

Contact Pete at PeteFine3012@gmail.com for more info.

The safety Tip:

Insurance Coverage Choices

Most people have some form of insurance. However, many do not have a clear understanding of coverage or policy

In Automobile Insurance

BIPD (Liability): One of the most important coverages in your auto policy is bodily injury and property damage liability coverages. This coverage helps protect you, your family and assets if you injure someone or their property with your vehicle and you are found legally liable.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: This coverage compensates you, members of your household and your passengers, up to a limit that you select, for bodily injury from an accident with a motorist who has no insurance or is underinsured.

Uninsured Motorist protection can compensate you, up to a limit that you select, if
you're injured by a hit-and-run driver.

Collision Insurance (material damage to your car) This is designed to assist you with some expenses you may incur following a loss in excess of the deductible arising under a Collision with another vehicle or object.

Comprehensive, can be called “other than collision” (material damage to your car): pays for losses resulting from fire, theft, falling objects, riots, storms, earthquakes, floods,
collision with a bird or animal and other natural occurrences.

Medical: This coverage pays many medical bills and funeral expenses, up to a limit you select, for you or a passenger injured while riding in your vehicle. Coverage extends to you or a family member when riding as a passenger in someone else's vehicle or when struck by a vehicle when you are on foot. Important especially if you don’t have a separate medical insurance policy.

Towing / Road Service: When you or your loved ones are stranded because your car will not operate and you need help.

Rental or Loss of Use: While your car is in the shop helps pay for a rental car.

The Safety tip:

How to Deal with a Parking Lot Accident

A parking lot accident can ruin your day. Some parking lots are nothing short of being a deadly trap. It is not uncommon to see people backing out of a parking spot talking on their cell phones or texting. Most parking lots in America are considered private property, which means different rules apply to them. Here are some ideas that will help you in case you are in a parking lot accident:

After the accident, pull your car out of the way and into a safe location

Exchange names, addresses, phone numbers and insurance information with other drivers. Make sure you SEE the driver’s license and insurance information of all other drivers. Insist that all parties must exchange information for insurance purposes. If they do not want to comply, call the police.

Get the names, addresses and phone numbers of any witnesses. This is one of the most important tips I can give you regarding parking lot accidents. Witnesses can help verify what happened during the accident.

Even though you may be upset, take note of the facts surrounding the incident such as time, date, location, weather conditions and parking lot conditions. Write them down. Take pictures if you have a cell phone with a camera.

Call the police. Do this even if someone has already done it or several hours have passed since the time of the collision. Most police officers will not come to a parking lot accident (private property = no jurisdiction). However, if they do not come to you, you can go the closest police station and file a "walk in report." Write down everything you know and exactly what happened. This will help you later on to document your claim. Sometimes, this will be the only piece of evidence that will come in. DO THIS WHILE IT IS FRESH IN YOUR MIND.

Even if your parking lot accident is minor and the damages are not significant, call your insurance agent right away. Your agent can give you information on how to proceed. This will protect you in case the other party makes a claim against you. Remember that a parking lot accident is the single most disputed accident out there.

If you do not have any witness, talk to the business owners (or managers) of stores in that parking lot. Many parking lots in America have surveillance cameras and it is likely that the accident was recorded. This will be the single most important piece of evidence. Some stores will sell you the recording; make sure you keep a receipt so the insurance company can reimburse you for your expense.

If there is no video, take pictures of the parking lot or draw a diagram of the accident. It can simply be boxes and lines to show the position of the vehicles. This will help your insurance claim’s adjuster determine how much visibility you had, etc.

How to Determine Who is at Fault:
People are expected to drive their vehicles with care and thought. Failure to do this is the cause of many accidents and can lead to lawsuits. There can be no-fault accidents, in which case the person who had the right of way when driving, is usually the person not responsible for the accident. For example, if you were backing out of a parking spot and hit a car, you would be at fault since you failed to use reasonable care when backing out of your spot. Even though the other person may not have had their lights on or was driving very quickly, because they had the right of way, they're not at fault. In some cases, because these are usually low-impact collisions, the fault is split, either equally or not.

How to Avoid Parking Lot Accidents:

Park far away from other vehicles, if possible
Use a turn signal when making a turn even in a parking lot
Park in the center of a parking space – not on the lines
Pay EXTRA attention when pulling into and backing out of parking spots
Drive VERY SLOWLY in parking lots - be careful when entering and exiting a parking lot
Do not park next to obstructions or hazardous objects
